Six (6) Olive, size 14, Zenchuu Sakasa Kebari
While mimizu is the translation for earthworm in Japanese, zenchuu is a more generic term for “worm,” which would include aquatic worms. These sakasa style (forward-facing hackle) flies were originally developed for tenkara panfishing, but I have found them to be an excellent dropper pattern when fished below a surface fly. They sink slowly, and the reverse hackle provides fish-attracting movement when the fly is twitched. The micro-wormille tail straightens out when moved through the water than returns to its kinked shape at rest providing even more fish attracting action. These flies are finished with a UV resin-protected fluorescent orange hotspot thread head.
