The Wicked Cricket by Brandon Combs

Pattern Recipe:

Wicked Cricket in Hopper color scheme

Hook: Firehole 718 size 12

Underbody: Hareline Furry Foam 3-5mm wide

Body, Head and Wing: 2mm thick strip of craft foam 6-8mm wide

Legs: Centipede Legs

Brandon’s Tying Instructions:

Step 1: Start with a thread base, wrapping all the way to where the bend starts.

Step 2: Tie in the foam at the rear of the hook, facing rearward.

Step 3: Tie in the rear legs, angling them back so they will be parted slightly by the foam when it is brought forward.

Step 4: Right in front of where the legs are tied in, tie in a strip of the furry foam, and wrap it forward to about a hook eye's length back from the hook eye.

Step 5: Tie in another set of legs at the front of the hook where your secured the furry foam.

Step 6: Bring the foam forward, and tie it down two thirds of the way up the hook shank. Then tie it down again behind the hook eye.

Step 7: Leave some extra foam forward of the eye for the head and then double it back to create the wing and tie it down again where it was tied down before it was folded.

Step 8: Whip finish and glue the wing down, if desired.
