I will be one of the featured fly tiers at this year’s Jim Holland’s Fly Jam. This one-day fly tying show in Califon, New Jersey, is a way local fly tiers honor the memory of Jim Holland, the owner of Shannon’s Fly and Tackle, now South Branch Outfitters. I started my guiding career over a dozen years ago with Jim and continue it today with the new owners of South Branch Outfitters (formerly Shannon’s Fly & Tackle).
When Jim was alive, he held an annual fly-tying event called Sparse Grey Matter, which featured local fly tiers. Jim Holland’s Tying Jam continues this tradition in his honor. This one-day event is an informal gathering of fly tiers and fishers from the NY Catskills and New Jersey. Some of the best fly tiers in the region will share their patterns and teach you a few tricks.
The show will take place at the Califon Fire House on Main Street in Califon, NJ. The doors open at 9:00 am, and the show will run until 3:00 pm. There will be dozens of local fly tiers on hand, ready to share their knowledge, true to the roots of the original Spare Grey Matter events. This informal event focuses on teaching and information sharing. See you there!
